Car Care Tips & Signs of Trouble
The safety of your family vehicles is Jensen's main concern. We have provided these Car Care Tips and Signs of Trouble for you so that you can ensure that your vehicle is safely and properly maintained.
Car Care Tips
Tires: Check tire inflation every month.
Oil: Have the the oil changed every 2,000 - 3,000 miles.
Fluids: Have the fluids checked regularly: brake, power steering, transmission, battery, windshield washer solvent and antifreeze. Replace/refill as needed.
Air Filter: Have the air filtration system checked periodically and change the air filter every year.
Engine: Keep your engine tuned to maximize fuel efficiency. Inspect engine belts regularly.
Battery Cables: Check battery cables and posts for corrosion periodically, and clean them as needed.
Lights: Check all vehicle lights frequently: headlights, turn signals, and brake and tail lights.
Windshield Wipers: Keep windshield wiper fluid filled at all times. Inspect windshield wipers periodically and replace them once a year.
Owner's Manual: Always refer to the Owner's Manual for your specific vehicle to follow the manufacturers recommended maintenance schedule and procedures.
Signs of Trouble
The following are signs of possible trouble. To ensure the safety of your vehicle and your family, don't ignore the warnings your car is giving you. Have these potentially serious problems checked out right away.
Dashboard Waring Lights: Be aware of the warning lights on your vehicle's instrument panel: Engine, Oil, Temperature. If any warning lights are lit or the gauges are out of their normal range, it may indicate a problem with the battery, alternator, brakes, engine temperature, or oil pressure.
Tires: The thumping of a tire indicates that a flaw has developed and the tire may become flat or blow out. Jiggling at certain speeds can indicate that a tire is out of balance.
Brakes: These are signs of brake trouble: Squealing or scraping sound when you apply the brakes. Brake pedal being either spongy or hard. Brake pedal sinking slowly to the floor after the vehicle has stopped.
Engine: Some common signs of engle trouble: Engine turns over, but does not start.
Engine hesitation, stalling or surging. Engine keeps chugging after the ignition has been turned off. Knocks or pings from the engine when accelerating or climbing a hill.
Oil: If it is necessary to add oil to the engine between oil changes, there may be problem that needs to be checked out.
Muffler: A roaring, rumbling or hissing sound from the muffler may indicate a hole or crack in the muffler or exhaust system.
Steering: Loose or sloppy steering can indicate a problem with the steering system.
Leaks: Check the odor and color of the leaking fluid: Most people recognize the smell of gasoline. Coolant/Antifreeze smells sweet and is generally green, pink, or yellow. Engine oil or steering fluid is usually brownish-black oil. Manual Transmission fluid is black and oozy. Automatic transmission fluid is a reddish oily film. Air conditioning fluid is usually clear.
